Day 8 in India

Today, Wednesday, 12 January, my team and I headed to work.  When we arrived at the hospital they were not quite ready for us so we took a walk to the nearby park.  The nearby park was very nice.  The sign at the park amused me as it provided specific instructions on how to walk in the park on the “track”.

From the park, we walked the short distance back to the hospital. After working for several hours, we went for lunch at a nearby hotel.  The food was so good.  As we had leftovers, we took them to go.  Instead of taking them back with us to the hotel later in the afternoon, we gave them to the people begging.  In my mind, this is a temporary solution to an actual need versus money which might be given to someone else or spent on things that are not life sustaining.  Seeing how poor these people, especially the kids, are is hard for me.  I feel so cold hearted not even looking at them and giving them something as I have been so blessed.  But I know on the other hand that by giving them money, it does not improve their situation, whereas the food is the perfect compromise in this situation.

Returning to the hotel, my roommate and I invited the other girls to join us in our exploration of the 71st Annual Exhibition in Hyderabad.  Everyone else was either working or wanted to rest.  Our driver picked us up and took us to the 71st Annual Exhibition.  On our way, the traffic was heavy so it took about 45 minutes to 1 hour (as for the distance I have no idea-even if I asked the answer would have been in kilometers, which I don’t understand).  This exhibition was a market/bazaar and was very large.  The number of shops and the distance the market was expansive.  The colors and quality of the items was impressive.  If we had more time, I think Annie and I could have stayed there for several more hours.

For dinner, we ate at Bowl of China, an Indian Chinese restaurant.  It is a strange experience eating other “foreign” foods in a foreign country. The food was good; however the service was lacking.  As we had leftovers, I had them packed to give to the people who beg along our journey tomorrow.

Finally, I am caught up.  It is amazing how the internet being down over the weekend through off my progress of keeping my blog up to date.  My day (Thursday) is just starting so either tonight or in the morning, I will post what happened today.  Also, I will try to add more pictures.
